19th GrACe TECHNICAL WORKSHOP ON GREEN BUILDING RATING SYSTEMS: Principles and Parameters for Sustainable Building Design- Preparation for LEED Green Associate Examination Built environment has profound impact on natural environment, economy, personal health and productivity. Building construction and operation have extensive direct and indirect impacts on environment. A green building is designed to use less energy and water, improved indoor air quality and to reduce the life-cycle environmental impacts of the materials used. A green rating system mainly aims in fundamentally changing the built environment by creating energy-efficient, healthy, productive buildings that reduce or minimize its significant impacts on the environment. Most of the leading countries have developed their own green building councils to govern green rating for building structures. A rating system and manage it effectively and efficiently to provide a remarkable service in assessing the buildings in terms of environmental acceptability while providing leadership to develop green solutions in the future for new developments and incorporate such concepts to existing buildings by retrofitting them to make them sustainable. It is important to note that from country to country the considerations for rating systems will be changed as the environmental conditions, level of development and the availability of resources vary from place to place. To prepare for the LEED GREEN ASSOCIATE EXAM, one should have an overall understanding of Green buildings and the Prerequisite and Credits/ points for each Category of the LEED Rating System. Workshop Outcome Upon completion of the workshop the participant will be able to Define and develop general understanding of Green Buildings Define green goals of Building Design Understand Building Rating System and its importance Develop a general understanding on the LEED Rating System and Phases of Certification Process Prepare for the GREEN ASSOCIATE EXAM Understand the Prerequisite and Credits, points for each Category of the LEED Rating System CPD CREDITS: The technical contents of the workshop are of a standard to qualify as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of 10 hours.
